Warm our hearts, Lord,
that like St David
we may be open to your will,
passionate about your way,
devoted to your work,
and determined in our discipleship.
Inspire in us your love for your people;
so may we reach out to one another
in faith and hope,
joy and peace.

You, Lord,
are the author of life,
the source of salvation,
the builder of your kingdom;
you are beyond all we can imagine,
yet you call us to be not mere servants,
but sons and daughters in your household.
May we live as heirs of your promise,
agents of your love.

In your great love for us, Lord,
you emptied yourself
to be one of us, one with us,
to call us not servants
but sisters and brothers,
fellow heirs of your kingdom.
Help us to be emptied
of all that is not of you,
all that frustrates
your purposes
in us and for us.

Lord,
in your great love for us,
you have made us
to be stewards
of your creation,
co-workers with you
in seeking the wellbeing
of the earth and
all its creatures.
Grant us wisdom in this task,
that we may work together
and properly repay
the trust you place in us.

not simply through an agent,
a prophet, an emissary,
but through your offering
of your very self,
incarnate as one of us,
and dwelling within us
by your Spirit.
As you offer yourself
to us and for us,
inspire us

Whoever we are, Lord,
whatever our origin,
our background,
our life story,
our successes,
our failures,
you have done for us
what we could never
do for ourselves;
made us worthy
of your kingdom.
Inspire us
to live out your love
to each other’s
benefit and
blessing.

Give us, Lord,
your passion
for the dignity
and wellbeing
of every person;
inspire us
to bear with
one another
in all our weaknesses
and limitations,
our opportunities
and challenges,
that your love
may be manifest
in our love,
neighbour
for neighbour,
day by day.

Guide our focus, Lord,
away from those
worldly priorities
which chase things
that ultimately
come to naught
and lead to emptiness;
rather, may our yearning
be for the things
of your kingdom,
the treasures that last;
the fruit of your Spirit,
the gifts of your love.

Save us Lord,
from falling into the trap
of believing that our own efforts
will accomplish our salvation;
give us instead
such an openness to your love
that our lives,
in joyful response to it,
show forth the salvation
you have won for us.
May love be our hallmark.

of your love, Lord,
you bring new life
to birth in us,
and set us free
that we might
reflect the light
of your life and love
into the world
for one another
and for all creation.
Grant that we may
use our freedom
in your service,
in blessing,

we are first
known by you;
deeply, intimately,

that we are yours,
that we are one in your love:
one family of dizzying diversity
and inherent inclusivity,

with love for you,
with the joy of your kingdom,
with the promise of new life,
with the assurance
of our belonging in you,
one people in our diversity,
that we cannot help
but speak your good news
in the words we say
and the lives we live.

for the promise of salvation,
for the assurance of your love,
first given to Abraham
and to his descendants,
but opened to all in Christ.
Help us to receive
this promise and assurance
deep in our being,
and to live in response to it,
day by day.

to live our lives
as a joyful response
to your love, Lord,
keep us centred
on that love,
and let not our ego
take the focus onto
what we imagine
we can do for ourselves.
Keep us fixed on you,
on your grace,
on your guiding Spirit
who leads us into truth.

Keep us open, Lord
to our need for your grace
and to the loving gift of it;
save us from ever falling
into the trap of thinking
we can earn our salvation,
or worse,
believing we need to earn it.
May our lives be
a response to your love,
not an attempt to secure it.

‘We are dust, Lord,
and to dust we shall return’.
In our own strength,
that would end our story;
but we have more
than our own strength,
for we have your love,
which overcomes all,
even sin and death,
and changes our story
completely.
We are loved, Lord,
into life!

that you invite us
to share in your mission
in and to the world.
We rejoice at the diversity
of vocations and ministries
that you call us to inhabit,
at the diversity of gifts
with which you entrust us.
Help us to respond
joyfully and lovingly.

in our thinking
and responding
to the people around us,
the issues we face;
give us the gift of
wisdom and discernment,
that we may live lives
in harmony with the gospel,

the veil of misunderstanding,
the cloak of prejudice,
the shutters of self-righteousness.
Open us up to the guidance of your Spirit,

to one another;
remind us of
the relationship
we have in you,
of our unity in your love.
Help us to see each other
through the lens of that love,
not the lenses of
utility, usefulness,
economics or status;
to see each other
as honoured guests.

in tune with your Spirit,
obedient to your will,
harnessed to your yoke.
Keep us ready
to do the work
of your kingdom,
to speak and show
your love to all.
Guide us by your light,
and draw us into your life;
fulfil your promises

among us.

that we may teach
the gospel of your love
not merely through our words,
but through lives lived
in harmony with your will.
May our attitude to you
and our attitudes to neighbours,

in our thinking and in our speaking,
in our living and in our loving.
Keep us close to you
in our relationships with others,
so we may shine
with the light of your gospel,

let our desire be
for the revealing
of your kingdom,
the sharing
of your love.
Let us not
be distracted
by those things
which would
turn us aside
from your way.
Bring us to solidarity
with you and one another;

for your kingdom,
such desire
for your love,
such yearning
for more and more of you,
that we cannot help but share
your good news

by the the manner of our lives
and by your grace in us,

day by day,
of your infinite
and intimate
love and concern
for each of us;
for our needs,
for our wellbeing,
for our vocation,
for our salvation.
Keep our focus
on that love,
such that we
might be freed
to share it

your disciples
into all the earth,
into every place,
every situation,
every context,
that the seeds
of your kingdom,
the spores

Enable us this day
