In all the trials of life, Lord Jesus,
you stand with us
to strengthen and support,
to guide and to guard.
Give us the faith and hope
to meet whatever faces us
trusting in your promises,
full of your peace.
Come what may,
may we know ourselves
to be in your hands.

Lord Jesus,
as with your
testing in the wilderness,
the temptations we face
will also so often play into
our propensity to seek
comfort, power, or prestige;
give us the faith, strength and courage
to keep our focus on your way,
and live lives that reveal your love.

Lord Jesus,
grant us the faith, the wisdom,
the courage and the confidence
always to draw others’ attention
not to ourselves,
but to your presence,
promises and peace.
Keep from us the desire
to lock away that which
disturbs our selfishness;
open us to your gospel.

Let us hear your call, Lord Jesus,
and respond to it with our whole lives:
your call to follow the way of your love;
your call to make straight its path
into the hearts and lives of all people;
your call to show the world
what love, relationship
and community mean.

Lord Jesus, keep us ever eager
to learn from you, about you,
and about ourselves
as we spend time in your presence,
open to your wisdom and your will,
led by your love
and guided by your grace.
May our hearts burn
to know you more and more,
and to walk in your way.

Keep us ever true to you, Lord Jesus;
may we turn aside from the idols
that tempt our attention, that the lure
of wealth, power, pride and lust
may never outshine
the light of your love for us.
Keep us in your way;
may we never twist your gospel
to serve ourselves.

as you call us to follow you,
you foster our vocation
to serve you as best suits us.
So inspire our hearts and lives
with your call upon us for today
that we may do your will
as we rest in, revel in,
and reveal your love
to a world in need.

you show your solidarity with us
in all things;
in your death you take upon yourself
all that harms us,
and in your resurrection
you lead us into new life.
Be with us this day;
lead us from anxiety to joy,

with you, Lord Jesus;
help us truly to open our hearts
to you in prayer,

that however tough
the rooms I’ve been in
this past couple of weeks,
you have done, and you keep on doing,
what you did for the disciples
in the upper room:
been here with your love and peace,
driven away all fear,
and affirmed your promises.

Dear sisters and brothers, you may have noticed that prayers have been posted a little erratically this week, and this is likely to be the case for a while yet, as I am in ICU following my return from Australia and the Far East.
