eyes of faith,

your presence
and your activity
in the world

filled with the courage
to call attention to you,
to witness
to your love

we show

the ability
and the inspiration

to the source
of our salvation,

Bring to birth
in us, Lord,
your light

As we celebrate
the life of heaven
breaking into the world,
not in might and majesty,
unmissable or irresistible,
but in the birth-cries
of a mother and baby,
on the edge of everything,
may we all,
however tiny we feel,
know that this birth
is for us.

on what the world offers:
status, power, money,
the endless wanting

Grow in us, Lord,
a faith like Mary’s:
open to encounter
with you,
ready to perceive
your presence,
your message,
your call;

wrestle with it
in seeking clarity
and understanding,

Lord,
guard our hearts
and keep them
turned towards you
and open towards
our neighbour.
Keep us from
self-centredness,
from being grumblers
and malcontents;

with your Spirit
