to proclaim who you are
in all that we are.
Keep us from the temptation
to remake you in our image,
to satisfy our desires and prejudices.
Instead, work on us
to reveal more and more
of your image in us,
day by day,
as we show your love
to the world.

that we may see our world, our vocation,
our mission and our neighbour
with kingdom eyes.

may we eschew
worldly status and position,
wealth and power,
to walk the way of your love
among the people

with the yeast of your kingdom.

of your image

to locate all that is wrong
outside ourselves,
and so often
to project such things
onto others.
Teach us to be aware
of the log in our own eye,
and allow you to deal with it,
so that what comes
from within us,

never to confine
the breadth of your kingdom
by the narrowness
of our own prejudices
and understanding.
Keep us always open
to your presence,
as you expand our awareness
of you and of your work among us.
May our hearts

sailing against the currents
of the world’s priorities, Lord,
and trying to make progress
in our own strength,
teach us
to be aware of your presence,
to make room for you,
and to remember that
you have authority
over even the winds and waves.

the majesty of your love.
Remind us continually
of its all-encompassing scope,
of its potency
to overcome anything
that would keep us from you,
even death,
and its desire

capture our attention
and restore our focus on you,
our Good Shepherd.
Give us a firm trust, always,

to speak truth to power,
to stand for what is right
and to champion the justice

Help us not to be swayed

let our familiarity
with you or your message,

or dampen the radical edge

to domesticate the gospel

difficulties, possibilities,
problems, breakthroughs
and all, you call us, Lord,
to place our faith in your love.
Remind us of the power of that love,
which overcomes even death
and ensures that we are never

and problems insurmountable,
when we are spent
from long years of seeking
solutions and resolutions,
when all seems lost,
give us the courage and confidence
to reach out for you

pushed and pulled
in many different directions
by the pressures
and priorities
of life.
Help us to know
our proper orientation
in you, our true north,
and so to find
your peace and wholeness,
that we may point others
to your love.

in you, Lord,
that as you reveal to us
your call upon our lives,
and show us
our particular way
to be kingdom-shaped,
so we may be ready, like Mary,
to say ‘yes’ to your will for us.
May we, like her,
point always to you

whether we face
the calm or the storms of life,
remind us and reassure us
of your presence with us,
of our place in your boat,
and of your sovereignty
over all things.
Encourage us in our faith,
that we may encourage others
in your love.

to be active and intentional
in scattering abroad
the seed of your kingdom.
Remind us that it is you
who brings the growth,
as that seed takes root
and spreads

in the work of growing your kingdom.
Inspire us to spread
the seeds of the gospel
